Legacy Documentaries

Ordinary People, Extraordinary Success!

Legacy is an independent documentary series created by Lisa Leonce and Oge Austin-Chukwu, telling inspiring stories of senior leaders in the UK who are people of colour.  Each film offers both inspiration and a powerful example of resilience and determination, whilst exploring various interconnected themes.

Our Story

The year 2020 marked a pivotal moment in the global conversation about racism following the tragic murder of George Floyd. It became impossible for people to ignore the harsh realities faced by Black individuals in a racially charged world. I (Oge) stumbled upon a documentary that highlighted the remarkable achievements of a few Black businesswomen in the USA. Watching it was both heart-breaking and uplifting, and it moved me to tears. I knew immediately that I had to share it with as many Black women as possible because it resonated so deeply with me.

Recognizing the need to take further action in the fight against racism, we (Dorcas, Lisa and Oge) started discussing how we could contribute, and from those conversations, the Legacy series was born.  After more than two years of dreaming, praying, networking, building a team, and tirelessly seeking funding, we have begun to see the realisation of that vision. The road to this point has been anything but easy. There were many moments when it seemed like our dream would remain just that—a dream. Along the way, we faced personal loss, health challenges, and unexpected setbacks.

We had to use our own resources because we believed so strongly in our mission, even when others couldn’t see what we saw. Through every hardship, we’ve learned valuable lessons, grown stronger, and had to part ways with some connections. Our families have endured the strain of our efforts, and we are deeply grateful to them. Their prayers and support have been essential—we couldn’t have done this without them.

Why now?

There are still significant gaps with black and ethnic minorities in leadership positions within every field.  Their pathways, treatment experienced on their career journey - and in position, continues to differ.  We provide resources and services to support and empower inclusive leadership in all fields and organisations.

We believe each film will serve as a great means of education, sparking much needed meaningful conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion at a time in Great Britain and worldwide, where this is needed like never before.  Whilst at the same time celebrating the achievements of people of colour here in Great Britain.
